Introducing You to Nigerian Dwarf Goats: Nigerian Dwarf Goats ARE a SMALL BREED of Goats... averaging 40 ~ 60 lbs... with some going up to 75 pounds. (Our herd is on the smaller size end, with does our does approximately 45--50 pounds and with Baron, our herd buck, going about 60 lbs.) These small goats are the "milk--dairy" version of dwarf goat breeds. Nigerian Dwarf Goats come in many colors, patterns, etc. (I will post a link, unrelated to our site, to an outside site for color reference/genetics as I myself, have not had time to make any sort of goat genetics page.)

(African Pigmy Goats are the "MEAT" breed version of dwarf goats.) You can expect ONLY about 25 % of meat from a Nigerian Dwarf Goat, but up to 35--45 % of meat yield from an African Pigmy Goat when cleaned. WE DO NOT eat our goats and we do not currently have African Pigmies thus, I am going by research and what I've been told.
Nigerian Dwarf goats can give 2 to 3 quarts of milk per day... (average milk yield is 2 quarts, remember these are tiny goats). Their milk is mild and sweet, and averaging 10 percent more protein that many other goat breeds.
Life span: is around 15 years.
Gestation period is around: 145~158 days (roughly 5 months)
Breeding Does (Nanny Goats): Most does can give live birth until they are 8--9 years old... some older, it varies by goat. Giving birth can be harder on older goats, depending, on care, etc.
Bucks can breed at 3 months of age but I find most don't until they are closer to 4-5 months. Most does will not breed until 5 to 7 months of age. I feel it's better to wait until a doe is at least 8--9 months of age, if not a year, to breed her, but that is just my personal opinion.
How cute are we???
